Spring Mini Conference and Business Meeting Planned in Douglas

The YSIG Spring Meeting is shaping up to be an exciting event! With the theme "Spread Color, Spark Joy", it's sure to be a colorful and lively experience. The mini conference will take place on May 1-2 at the Converse County Library in Douglas.

The agenda includes some amazing guest speakers, such as Joanne Pruitt from the Wyoming State Library. As the Youth Services Consultant, she will be sharing valuable insights on the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP), summer reading performers, and GoWYLD. She will also lead some fun activities, making it an engaging experience for all attendees.

Additionally, there will be a chance to take part in a STEM activity/craft and meet some amazing community members, which is a great way to connect and learn more about local resources.

It seems like a fantastic event for networking, learning and having FUN! Keep an eye out for your invitation soon—this is an event you won't want to miss!

There was a Round Table Discussion on Intellectual Freedom and Book Challenges with Conrrado Saldivar, Jennisen Lucas, and Darcy Acord. Steve Rzasa, Johnson County Library Director,  led a tour of Johnson County Library and downtown Buffalo. Chris Van Burgh led a database overview and Janet Tharp presented a fabulous storytelling session. It was a very informative and successful meeting.

Spring Meeting and Training: NASA@My Library

The Wyoming State Library was pleased to announce that it was selected to partner with NASA@MyLibrary to host a workshop for Wyoming public librarians. This workshop was held in Laramie on March 28-29, 2019 in conjunction with the WLA Youth Services Interest Group Spring Meeting.

The NASA@MyLibrary staff provided the training free of charge to public librarians in attendance. The workshop training aimed to help participants in facilitating hands-on space science activities for children ages 5-13 and families in their libraries and connect to a broader online community of space science resources (STAR Library Network). Participants enjoyed activities demonstrated by two facilitators from the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colorado. The facilitators provided supplies for everyone to participate in hands-on activities, as well as lunch and snacks on Thursday and Friday. Part of the training included an evening under the stars that included outdoor activities.
All of these activities were designed to be replicated in your own library programming.

This workshop training paired nicely with the Collaborative Summer Library Program theme of A Universe of Stories.
