Disaster Preparedness
Posted on May 26, 2010 by WLA Webmaster

You may not think that a disaster can happen to you or your collection, but odds are that something will happen. It may be natural (fire, tornado, flood, winds) or man-made (vandalism, arson, water or sewer leaks, electrical, or chemical). As they say, the best offense is a good defense, but in order to do that, you need to think through some things.

  • Prevent--reduce harm to people, collections & property in the event of unavoidable emergencies

  • Prepare--gather supplies & equipment, locate emergency contacts, prepare & train personnel to manage emergencies

  • Mitigate--take actions that make the potential effects of the emergency situation less severe, or prevent the emergency from happening in the first place
