Welcome to the Wyoming Library Association

WLA Awards

The Wyoming Library Association annually seeks to recognize meritorious services and achievements in the field of Wyoming librarianship. Now is the time to recognize library colleagues, library supporters, and libraries for accomplishments furthering the advancement of Wyoming libraries. The WLA Awards/Grants committee encourages nominations in the following categories:

Service Citations (presented to individuals)

Documentation Requirements

Distinguished Service: A librarian who, for at least 5 years, has demonstrated inspired leadership, devoted service, and significant contributions to Wyoming libraries and to the profession of librarianship.

Librarian of the Year: A librarian who has shown excellence in library performance during the past 12-18 months.

Meritorious Service: A library supporter, for example, a legislator, college president, volunteer parent, friend of the library, financial benefactor, who has provided beneficial support to a school, public, academic, or institutional library program.

Media Support: An editor, reporter, news commentator, a newspaper, or radio/television station consistently supporting and communicating library news and programs.

Trustee Citation: A member of a library board for accomplishments toward the advancement of library service, and development of sound library policies; for effectively representing the library in and to the community; for sound judgement and creative ideas resulting in improved library practices and programs.

Unsung Heroine/Hero Award: An individual whose contribution to libraries might otherwise go unnoticed.

Award Award: As the name suggests, this award goes to an individual who deserves an award, but does not necessarily fit into one of the other categories. This can be for a major OR a minor achievement, something unsusual, or even a noble deed.

Andy Fisher Award: A county library which has achieved a special goal of outstanding merit. Any combination of efforts by librarian, staff, or trustees might have accomplished this goal.

Georgia Shovlain Award: A Wyoming library for a special project either complete or still in progress.

Milstead Award: A public, school, or special library for outstanding service to children or young adults.


Recognition

  • Retiring librarians, library staff, trustee or board members.
  • Accomplishments: Including individuals who have completed library or other educational degrees or programs relevant to library services and/or to the profession of librarianship.
  • New library construction or remodeling projects.
